Got up early before the streets were full. Got a few nice pictures before getting Stephanie up and going. Once out and about with our itinerary set we stopped to get some pictures of an abandoned building. Climbing up on a small ledge and about to jump into the building which had a dirt floor I noticed a mound of dirt and a hole, a big HOLE. I eased back off the ledge and leaned over on my stomach to peek inside. Empty, YAY! It was a bear's den we were told later and thankfully this warm weather had him gone already. Took several shots and left the building only to find we had punctured our tire while there. Sunday and in a tiny town, everything but tourist shops and restaurants are closed. Put on the tiny spare and limped back to the hotel. Itinerary busted, only thing left now is walk to a nearby diner for breakfast. Shortly after being seated we start chatting with a retired doctor sitting at the next table. He was waiting for his wife and some others from his church to come join him and when they arrived we all chatted throughout breakfast. Upon leaving we mentioned our misfortune with the tire and one of the ladies said "Oh Dave can fix that" and proceeded to pull out her phone and call him. After a short conversation with him she gave us directions to his shop and said he was there waiting to fix our car. Okay small towns can be great sometimes. Dave only wanted $20 to fix our tire so we gave him $40. Back on the road without an itinerary we just wandered about the countryside looking around. Great day with great people and a wonderful wife. CODY tomorrow!!!
Stephanie and Kevin's 1st BIG road trip since buying the Victory Touring bikes. Our goal is just going West. With 3 weeks to kill while taking only back roads and photographing along the way. Hoping to find some true Americana. Camping at parks or staying at old roadside motor inns where we can and dinning in mom and pop diners. The way many travelers before us saw America. Good Bye highway, so long Holiday Inn Express, and no more Cracker Barrels.... Hello America here we come!
