Day 3 - Stephanie

We made it to South Dakota!  Traveled 408 miles today and 8 and 1/2 hours.  Up at 4 am to "borrow" the WiFi from the Mexican Restaurant across the street, and then hit the road.  Held up almost 2 hours due to rain but met and talked to some interesting people as we sat and ate our breakfast on the bikes next to the gas pumps. Then it was beautiful blue skies to SD.  Temps started out at 78 at 6 am this morning and then bumped up to 94, ended the day chilled at 71 degrees.

I cannot get over the amount of corn and soybeans in IL and IA.  We traveled over 800 miles in the midst of those 2 crops alone.  And I'm fascinated with one barn structure we've seen consistently in Iowa.  It's a drive through barn with "living compartments" built on top.  Raced a train today, let him catch up, then raced him again.

Poor Kevin has realized I am also fascinated with windmills of every sort.  Good thing he's patient and is willing to go on a wild goose chase just to get a photo here, a photo there, and another photo over there.......

I also realized today that I could get used to not knowing where we were and not caring.  Come on lottery tickets - just one of you be a big winner and he and I could stay lost the rest of our lives!  Until tomorrow.  Not sure what it will bring but we'll know after it's done.

PS  I would really like to thank John Robinson for creating the artwork for our blog.  He's a very busy man but has the heart of an elephant and took some of his precious time to create something special for Kevin and me.  Thanks John!  You're super talented and a great person too boot!

  2. Have very much enjoyed your blog posts, and imagine you are having a great trip. Following along with the GPS is much fun too, wondering which roads you will take, where you will stop for lunch, dinner, evening etc...and imagining the scenery along the way. Hope it is everything you were expecting at this this point. Doug Panhrost
