Sitting here below Devil's Tower listening to a Screech Owl and getting ready to go get some star shots. There are buffalo behind us at the camp site snorting and Kevin is busy pecking away at his keyboard also.
We left our wonderful little cabin outside of Mt. Rushmore after our little squirrel buddies (terrorists is more like it) did a fly by through our porch area, up the tree onto our roof to do a little jig, chatter at us, and then off they went. They were hilarious last night with their antics and taunting us. They literally came within feet of us, did a few acrobatics, looked us straight in the eyes, and then off they went again, only to return to give us another show. Show offs! But so cute!
We started out this morning with a very slight drizzle and cool temps of 56 degrees, but ended up with pure sun and a high of 86 degrees. Saw antelope, deer, wild turkey, and buffalo along our trip of 295 miles in 7 hours and 13 minutes. Also saw piles of hay that had to have been 50'x50'. What a way to save on hay twine! I guess they just turn their livestock out in the winter and let them have at it, or they have a way to grab a bunch to feed at one time? Don't know, intrigued minds want to know though so if anyone out there knows, please inform me. Thanks!
After we left the area of Mt. Rushmore we embarked on a trip to Crazy Horse. Discovered a rhubarb wine made by Red Ass, and stopped in Custor where we ate a home made breakfast from a roadside Mexican stand. Delicious! And the owners were nice enough to direct us via scenic routes to our next destination, where traveled through a couple of drop dead beautiful canyons today en route to the Indian Dealership in Sturgis. Found an outfit I'd love to have so that Banon, my Pembroke Welsh Corgi, could ride along in with me. She would look adorable with a pair of goggles on and scarf blowing behind her, riding with me.
Next we stopped in a town named Belle Fourche at a very little coffee shop, The Green Bean Coffee Shop, where we chowed down on our last meal of the day - homemade sandwiches and treats for the road. At least it was my last time seeing the place, unfortunately Kevin left his phone there and he had to make a trip back while I secured our camp spot at Devil's Tower National Park.
We are now getting ready to pack up our camera gear to find the perfect spot to photograph stars and do some star spirals.
Ta ta for now!
