I guess the highlight of my day (other than Finally riding through mud - the last element Mother Nature had to throw at us - HOPEFULLY!!), was the BEAR!!! I happened to be sitting on a boulder on one side of the river when he showed up on another boulder on the other side of the river. Dang! Didn't have my zoom lens! But snapped a few pics of him anyway, then ran for the bike and my 200-400 lens. No luck on getting him with the big lens at that point, but Kevin and I knew he was headed downstream. Jumped on the bikes and sharp-eyed Kevin saw him right before another take-out parking spot. While Kevin went upstream to capture the bear on "film" I waited for Mr. Bear with big lens situated on trippod. He showed up! Eating berries. Then proceeded to take a bath right across from me. After he had his meal and bath, he playfully slapped a tree and ran off into the woods. What a thrill!
We did ride across 9 miles of road construction, but what the heck was a little mud and gravel after what we've been through so far? Cake Walk.
Oh yeah, mileage from Rain Man is 147 and time on bikes 6 hours and 50 minutes, most of that time sitting waiting on one lane construction on "Going To The Sun Road." And yes, there are 2 tunnels on that road.
After traveling the Sun Road over and back, with a nice lunch at Lake McDonald, we ventured over to Many Glaciers. Cattle on the road (saw one I'd love to take home as a pet - beautiful black and white head), and got photos of a super waterfall. Also saw the "Swiss Flavored" Lodge that was featured on Aerial America and swore we'd come back to stay there and stay. Hoping to get some good sunlight there in the morning for a nice reflection shot.
Once again, a wonderful day with the love of my life!
