The Idaho/Washington state line was impressive. We were not aware how high we were until we pulled into an overlook and saw a huge valley below of the Snake River. The side road the overlook was on was the original highway. Named the Spiral Highway and when looking down below the bluff it was obvious how they got the name. The road was one switch back after another for miles, we opted for that over the "improved" highway.
After following the Snake River for awhile we saw it again, the Lewis and Clark Trail sign. We never planned on following the trail but somehow from Indiana to Oregon we have traveled their path. It seems in just about every state we have been going down a road at one point that was the Lewis and Clark Trail..... I think we are being stalked by their ghosts.
Then we saw them just before Walla Walla, huge giants at least 100 foot tall. Giant dust devils spinning across the harvested wheat fields. One was heading our way Steph said across the intercom she was backing down and didn't want to run into it. I started to back down also then decided I would never have this chance again and cracked the throttle to take on the devil. WHEEEEEE..... direct hit!! Ducked below the windshield and small bits of wheat swirling about me everywhere. I was victorious in slaying the devil..... well at least driving through the center of it... LOL
Stopped and had lunch in Walla Walla, Wa for no other reason but because I like the sound of Walla Walla.
Then Don Quixote made an appearance when the windmills came into sight, stopped and got a few shots off at tem, she was happy.
While following the Columbia River we saw a porcupine made a u-turn stopped and took some pics but I think he wasn't well.
Here in The Dalles wandering the streets taking pics and stumble in on a street party with a band. Cool town.
Great Day

Curious to hear if you guys see a lot of windsurfers on the Columbia River, saw a special about it once about how the wind just barrels through the gorge. Looks like you guys are almost to Portland!
