Day 14 - Stephanie

We were in three States today - Idaho, Washington, and Oregon.  Crossed into Washington and Oregon a few times each on our adventure.  We have also been mainly following along Lewis and Clark's trail since Indiana.

After waking up to 36 degree temps (and ending up in 89 degree temps), we saw thousands acres of wheat and zipped through many "dust devils" that blew chaff and straw onto us.  I can tell you that I think I'd rather travel through Kansas rather than the North Western part of Idaho into the South Eastern part of Washington.  Can you say "Zzzzzzzzz" and I literally almost fell asleep riding through this area, so much so we made a special stop in Walla Walla, WA to a coffee shop just for me to get an extra boost of caffine.

After that we followed the Columbia River in Oregon, across to Washington, and then back into Oregon again.  Saw 100's of the wind turbine's in Oregon and Washington both.  Made a couple of steer wonder what the heck we were doing when we stopped to get a photographs of a porcupine (which neither of us had ever seen before - the porcupine that is, not the steer).  Unfortunately we think the poor guy either had Distemper or had been hit and was knocked silly, as he was staggering alongside the road with no real purpose to his walk and a glazed look in his eye.

We are now in The Delles, OR and had hoped to find another nice campground to camp in.  However, we ran out of daylight and found the first motel with a vacancy.  We will be moving to another motel tomorrow and thankfully it is next door to where we are staying now and they will let us put all our bags behind their front desk so we don't have to tote an extra 100+ pounds while we go out and explore.

We did venture out this evening and found a live band playing with the average age of people dancing and partying to be in the their upper 60's to 70's.  Hey, at least we were out!  Photographed some of the historic parts of the downtown area.

Tomorrow we will be exploring the scenic areas of this area and hunting out waterfalls to photograph.

Mileage today was 351 and we were on the bikes for 7 hours even.  Looks like we have logged 3,755 miles to date.  Shew!
Steer wondering what we are doing.....

Made from old sickle bar teeth - cool and creative!
