Rain Man says, wait a minute, gotta get up from my cozy seat next to our campfire to go check my bike, and after yesterday's 5 mile hike, my knee is not talking kindly to me. Listening to two Great Horned Owls now. Be right back.............
Ok, I'm back. Mileage today I believe tops all days to date. We logged 390 miles. 10 miles shy of the 400 we were hoping to get. We were on the bikes a little over 8 hours. Today was actually the prettiest ride we have done to date. Twisty, windy mountain roads that would have made Matt McKinley slobber for. Weather was as perfect as it could be, even with waking up to 36 degrees at Glacier National Park and bikes covered in frost and ice. We were on the road at about 7:30 mountain time with heated gear on high, neck warmers and chaps on, and many strange looks from by passers. Oh, if only they knew the exhilaration of that type of ride! Sorry for their bad misfortune of not knowing. By mid-afternoon we were out of heated gear and chaps and no gloves with a lovely temp of 74.
Rode alongside a beautiful lake before lunch called Flathead Lake in Lakeside, MT. Afterwards took the bikes through a car wash and washed off the remnants of Glacier National Park and in the process I found a plum tree full of ripe plums. YUM!!! I was Happy Happy Happy riding down the road popping plums in my mouth and spitting out the seeds. Life doesn't get much better!
We found another train to chase down and were suprised to see he was hauling old Boeing fuselages. 4 in total. Raced ahead of him to get pics and were please when he leaned out the window and blew his horn at us. Yep, we are easily entertained.
Kevin won the "guess how many Birds of Prey" contest with a guess of 12. We saw 12 exactly! The 12th one was a young Osprey up in his nest alongside lake Coeur d'Alene. We stopped to get a few pics of him and he then started calling for his mom,.
We are now happily camping at Hayburn State Park with campfire roaring and bellies full from German Sausage cooked over the campfire. Matt McKinley, the 30 miles of lakeside road made the Dragon pitiful in comparison. We thought of you and how much you would LOVE the road.
Not too many pics from today since we were busy riding, riding man! "I just wanna ride, you know, ride. Ride Sally." (Yes, we have been quoting Wild Hog lines this whole trip).
Oh PS, met a man from Oregon who knows Columbia Gorge well. He gave us a great route to get there, another 8 hours and we're there! Yippee!
